A night under the stars
No walls, no roof, just a bed, a blanket and a sky full of stars, with lions calling somewhere in the dark. Each lodge here offers a night out in the bush, on a sleep-out deck, a star bed or high up in a treehouse, and we have checked every one against the lodge's own details. Today's South African resident rates sit alongside.
Rates are per person per night sharing for the lodge. A sleep out is usually booked ahead and may cost extra, so ask us. Rates exclude park and conservation fees unless stated, and every rate is subject to availability when you book.

Sleep out questions
Is a sleep out safe?
Lodges build their sleep outs with safety in mind, and you will typically have a radio to reach the team through the night. A guide takes you out and collects you in the morning.
Do I give up my room for the night?
Usually not. At most lodges the sleep out is added to a normal stay, so your room is kept for you.
Does it cost extra?
It depends on the lodge. Some include a night out in certain stays, and others charge for it. We will tell you exactly what applies to your dates before you book.
Can children come?
Each lodge sets its own age limits, and some sleep outs are for adults only. Tell us who is travelling and we will check.
When is the best time of year?
The dry winter months bring the clearest skies, so pack warmly. Summer nights are mild, with a chance of a storm, so a night out may need to move if the weather turns.
