About the Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve

Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve rests at the foot of the Sneeuberg Mountain Range in South Africa’s dynamic Karoo region. This is a place of sweeping panoramas and undulating escarpments, extraordinary plant and animal diversity and a deeply rooted cultural heritage – from its early Bushmen dwellers to its Dutch settlers.

Game Drives

Our highly knowledgeable and experienced game rangers will try their best to make sure you see our “Camdeboo Big Five”, namely the breeding cheetah pair, the rare white rhinos, giraffe and almost extinct mountain zebra. Not to mention a bevy of birds and smaller lesser-spotted game.

Not forgetting human creature comforts, each drive takes a break mid safari, where guests can tuck in to a picnic basket filled with hot coffee, tea, rusks and other delicious snack delights. In the colder winter months guests are dispatched with hot water bottles, blankets and a dash of liqueur to warm their way.



Scenic Helicopter Flights with Fly Karoo

- Scenic flight over the reserve to one of the highest points on the Sneeuberg Mountain Range with a picnic on top of the mountain included. Duration 25 min. Price R 11 150 for 1-4 pax

- Graaff-Reinet scenic flight over the historic town, Spandau Kop and Valley of Desolation, starting and ending on the reserve. Duration 45 min. Price R 14 500 for 1-4 pax.

- History of Graaff-Reinet: Includes a scenic flight to/ from Graaff-Reinet and a 2.5 hour historic ground town tour with a lunch stop (lunch for own account). Time 09h00 - 14h30. Price R 14 500 for 1-4 pax + R 615 pp.

- Valley of Desolation: Includes a scenic flight over the Valley of Desolation, landing in Graaff-Reinet, followed by a 2.5 hour ground tour of the Valley of Desolation with a lunch stop (lunch for own account) included and a road transfer back to Graaff-Reinet for flight back to the reserve. Time 09h00 - 14h30. Price R 14 500 for 1-4 pax + R 840 pp.

- History of Graaff-Reinet & Valley of Desolation: a full day outing combining the above two tours. Time 09h00 - 17h00. Price R 14 500 for 1-4 pax + R 1 450 pp.

- Graaff-Reinet History & Nieu Bethesda: Includes a scenic flight to Graaff-Reinet followed by a 2.5 hour historic ground town tour, a road transfer to Nieu Bethesda, lunch (for own account) and a 2.5 hour Nieu Bethesda & Owl House Tour, with a return flight to the reserve. - Graaff-Reinet flip: For guests already in, or travelling through, the town of Graaff-Reinet. A short 10 minute scenic flip over town, Spandau Kop and the Valley of Desolation. Flight departs from and arrives back at Graaff-Reinet. Duration 10 min. Price R 3 340 for 1-4 pax.

THE GRAAFF-REINET ANGLO-BOER WAR TOUR

Relive the experience of the town under martial law and visit the monuments and museums including the Military History Museum, the Anglo Boer War Memorial, the historical Graaff-Reinet Jail, a historical fire-arms collection and the Graaff-Reinet Club which has a close association with the Coldstream Guards.

HISTORICAL GRAAFF-REINET TOUR

Take a guided walk through the architectural Gem of the Karoo. Visit landmarks & monuments including Reinet House, the Drostdy, the Dutch Reformed Church & the Graaff-Reinet Club where bullet holes in the bar-counter reveal a fascinating past.

UMASIZAKHE TOWNSHIP TOUR

Experience this vibrant and friendly community and learn about Ubuntu and the Xhosa language & culture. Take a guided walk through the township streets, visit a local project and/or a school and see the historical Royal Block. On a Sunday one can attend a church service and hear a traditional or gospel choir.

CAMDEBOO NATIONAL PARK NATURE WALK

THE PAARDEFONTEIN BATTLE SITE TOUR

Visit the hidden valley where the Boer Cmdt Lotter laagered up with 130 men on the wet, cold night of 4 September 1901. Lt-Col Scobell's column consisting of the 9th Lancers, the Cape Mounted Rifles & the Imperial Yeomanry; hunting Loiter with untiring energy, finally tracked him down to his hide-out and made a surprise dawn raid capturing virtually the entire commando. Relive the story of this Commando's fateful last hours and visit the graves of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Optional picnic brunch/lunch.

BUSHMEN ROCK ART & GONDWANALAND FOSSIL TOUR
Half or full day

In the Sneeuberg is a sheltered, well-watered oasis; hidden high up on the inhospitable plateau where man has lived, hunted, & survived for thousands of years. Take a walk to the nearby rock-paintings, see hundreds of Bushman artefacts, learn about their vanished culture & take a fascinating guided tour of the extensive fossil museum where the Karoo palaeontol­ogy is explained. Optional lunch.

VALLEY OF DESOLATION SUNDOWNER TOUR
± 2.5 hours

Experience this hauntingly beautiful geological formation with spectacular 120m high columns of ancient eroded volcanic rock that stand sentinel over the endless, parched Plains of Camdeboo. Panoramic views over Graaff-Reinet are also afforded. Wildlife commonly seen on this tour includes Kudu, Cape Mountain Zebra, Mountain Reedbuck and the majestic Verreaux's Eagle with their 2m wingspan.

NIEU BETHESDA & OWL HOUSE TOUR
Half or full day with Rock Art tour

Take a scenic drive to this picturesque & secluded village in the Sneeuberg little changed by time. Visit the Owl House; the eccentric Helen Martins' fantasy world of glass & concrete and take a walk through the quaint dusty streets. Relax at a craft brewery or a coffee shop, take in an art gallery or two and see the talents of emerging township artists at the Bethesda Arts Centre. Optional lunch at local restaurant.
